Sanchi is a Hill Top in Sanchi Town Located in Raisen District of Madhya Pradesh State in India. There are a group of Buddhist Monuments dedicated to Gautham buddha on this hilltop. This is a Buddhist Monument Site that is more than 2300 Years Old.
In this same risen district you can find many sites related to Buddism, Another one is Bhimbetka. There are the largest temples and Stupas in Sanchi. These Monuments are built by Ashoka.
There are a Group of Monuments now in Sanchi like Gateways, Stupas and Temples dedicated to Buddism, All these started from the Period of the Maurya Empire. The Great King Ashoka was from Maurya Empire and Built Buddist Empire and also Ashoka Pillar and also built a Temple.
During Shinga Period in the 2nd Century BC, First Stupa is built on the Hill Top. During Satavahana Period between 1 Century BC to 1 AD, they built Eastern Gateway.
The Inscriptions on the Pillars are Carved on Rocks and assembled on the Pillar. The Stupas which are built on the Hill Top are built using Large bricks, This type of Architecture is used in many other Buddhist Shrines. Most of the Carvings are done on rocks.
It explains the folklores of Gautama Buddha and his journey of enlightenment and the life cycle of Buddha. Some of the Inscriptions and sculptures also depict Buddha’s past life and next Life.
UNESCO WHS Status
Sanchi is located in Bihar and Not only Stupa and Ashoka Pillar, but It also has a Group of Monuments dedicated to Buddhism and many other temples in this area, Which has very great Historical Importance. Based on the Cultural Heritage Protection it does, UNESCO Granted World Heritage Site Status in 1989.

Best Season To Visit Sanchi
Historical Monuments like Sanchi should be visited during the Winter Season, Because Summers heat up the rocky place which will be quite a discomfort, Between months of October to January, It is recommended to visit this Place.
As this is 2000-year-old Stupa, It withstood many Changes and still strong, There are just a few damages here and there due to human activities and some may be due to years and years of withstanding many climatic changes.
Covid 19 Restrictions
As of May 2021, The State of Bihar is in Lock Down and this place is closed for Visiting.
Entry Ticket Cost
Tickets are available in Bookmyshow and Paytm, Entry Fee is 40 Rs for Indians and 600 for Foreigners. The Timings are from morning 6 AM to 6:30 PM. You can book tickets at the official link of the Website Given Below and also this is controlled by the Archeological Survey Of India.
Sanchi Stupa is just 55 km away from Bhopal, So There are many ways to Reach Bhopal like Train, Bus. From there you can hire either Taxis or Buses are also available. Travel Cost will be approximately about 5000 to 7000.
